Let It Begin

Last night I worked on making some furniture until about 3:30 AM. I made a shelf for Eve's loft, a chest/window bench, and a bookshelf ladder. My neighbors are probably preparing to take our house with torches and pitch-forks, but that's all for now on the trailer house. It is ready to tow, although not entirely done (there is some trim work to be done inside, and some more furniture to build. But that can wait. Tomorrow, early in the AM, we are beginning our journey and taking the trailer up to North Carolina, where it will wait for us until we can sell our big house. Please pray for a safe and efficient trip.

Ceiling Finished

The inside siding is finally done. It had become a Purgatory like experience: me hammering away at it for hours every day, with sweat pouring into my eyes, fiberglass insulation fibers coating my entire body in a hair-shirt like cocoon of discomfort, and mosquitos massing around my head and ankles, even somehow penetrating the defenses of my beard to chew on my face. Thankfully, it's over, so now I have two days to finish all the trim work and make the furniture before getting on the road with it Saturday morning.

Getting Walls On

Yesterday I finished the walls, mostly. I was trying to make some progress on the ceiling tonight, but my neighbors called the police about a banging sound (I was nailing siding on after midnight), and I had police come and visit for the second time this month, so I had to cut it short. I'm trying to put in some night hours to get this done so its ready to move on Friday. I might just have to go super basic on the furniture next week and call it good. This might turn out a little more rustic than we were originally planning, at least for the time being.

Starting the Interior Siding

Insulation is finished (on the bottom floor) and started the siding today. As of now, I have 2 walls about 80% clad. I'll be working into the night to try to get the siding finished so I can start on the ceiling tomorrow.

Back On Track…Race to the Finish

I'm back working on the trailer house after taking about a month off to work on the big house. As we prepare to put the (actual) house on the market next month, we had a lot of projects to do. We replaced the old plumbing pipes, replaced the old wiring, built a closet into one of the bedrooms, painted the whole inside of the house, pressure washed the outside, reglazed and scraped and painted all the windows, painted the front porch, and repaired some vinyl siding. Now we are mostly done, and I have 10 days to finish the tiny house before we take it on the road for the first time. So I have registered the trailer and got it all street legal, and now I'm in a mad dash to finish it. To meet this timeline I had to streamline and simplify a lot, based on some developments to our re-settlement plan. These changes include nixing the built in shower in favor of building a stand alone shower structure at our final destination, as well as some minor layout changes. The floor is done, and I did about 50% of the insulation today. Tomorrow I will finish insulating and begin installing the siding. These pictures aren't the best quality, but I seem to have left my camera at a friend's house in North Carolina last week, so I used the computer's picture capture feature. Take it or leave it.
